When To Shut Your Mouth

When is it time for borough officials to own up to their mistakes?  When they have made them.  When is it time for them to shut their mouths?  When others are speaking.  When is it time to vote out officials from their office?  NOW!

Chip Gazzerro as council president needs to understand that he cannot bully people because his council seat is not his own personal bully pulpit, but that is what he uses it for, to bully people.  Tonight for the first time several council members stood up to him and called him on the carpet for using Downingtown Borough as his own little fiefdom.  Nick Winkler made it perfectly clear that council listens to other arms of the borough sometimes without even talking about it, but when it comes to the Historic and Parks Commission Chip Gazzerro has been heard saying if he doesn't like that commissions recommendation he will just change the ordinance.

Mayor Josh Maxwell's job is very limited in scope yet he constantly oversteps his bounds.  He would like to residents to think that he has nothing but the good of the borough in his thoughts and actions, however he ran against Becky Corbin for State Rep and we will be redistricted in 2014 and it is well known that he will campaign to fill that State position.  He will be campaigning at a crucial time in our borough and he will not be interested in the residents unless he can count on their votes for Harrisburg.

So on Tuesday when it comes time to vote you as the voter and resident need to consider these things.  Do wish for a Mayor who is only using you as a stepping stone or one that really cares about you and has no aspirations for higher office so dedication will not be an issue?  Do you also want a council member who feels it is within his rights to speak down to and bully other council members because he has a gavel and a title.  Twelve years is long enough.  Even diapers need to be changed to avoid the smell.

  1. 1. Chip Gazzerro IS a bully and he definitely uses the Council President's seat to interrupt one council member when that person has anything to say. He definitely seemed to enjoy his deliberate and timely interruptions during Council member Ann Feldman's comments.

    2. Chip Gazzerro, while superficially helping the residents of the Borough has been shamelessly using 'position of power' to offend as many residents as possible.

    3. Chip Gazzerro definitely needs to in get voted OFF Borough Council.

    4. Josh Maxwell, as the mayor and overseer of the police department, seems to have augmented his lowly position to something that it is not.

    5. Josh Maxwell has deliberately set up events that could easily interfere with other events that have been planned for and done for many years.

    6. Josh Maxwell, after failing Widener Law, took up courses in political science and business management.

    7. Josh Maxwell, with his lack of profundity, is seen as an embarrassment by many on the political scene.

    8. Josh Maxwell, as seen by many residents, is a puppet to the developers. He has done little to support appropriate growth of the Borough of Downingtown.

    9. Because of their resentment toward ONE person, Josh Maxwell, Chip Gazzerro and others on the current council - plus others from the previous council - have deliberately helped to destroy the beauty of the Borough.

  2. When I read Pat’s numbered comments, while I felt they were all true, I also felt there were a few things left out. And I had a problem with her statement about Maxwell and his college education.

Yes, Chip IS a bully but it’s not just to ‘one council member.’ He is a jerk and interrupts other council members, talk through their comments (when he should be listening) AND bully citizens both inside the council room and outside in the parking lot. What really irritated me the other night was his interruption of Ann’s comments when she was offering suggestions that would help the residents’ parking problems.

I don’t know if Maxwell failed at Widener Law or just left. According to information I found on the Internet, Maxwell entered West Chester U. in 2002 and Widener Law in September, 2008
    Published: January 17, 2010
"A graduate of West Chester University, Maxwell studied political science as an undergraduate, concentrating on public policy.

A year later, an article was published on February 25, 2011. It states he’s a Penn graduate student and just entered in first year of the Masters in Public Administration program at Penn’s Fels Institute of Government…
Below the link is a paragraph explaining the mayor’s most challenging aspect of his job and what must be his most profound statement

“The most rewarding aspect of his time as mayor was also the most challenging — the creation of a 2011 budget that included cuts to various departments but that didn't include any tax increases. Other boroughs in Chester County raised taxes by as much as 20 percent.”

“On a tangible basis, every single day, you can affect people’s lives,” Maxwell said.
He announced his candidacy for the seat of the newly created 45th District around January 19, 2012…basically a year later
Maxwell announces run for 45th Seat
Josh Maxwell graduated from Fels Institute in 2012

    West Chester U: 2002 to 2008
Widener Law from 2008 to 2010.
Penn’s Fels Institute 2010 to 2012 – and he did graduate.

He did NOT graduate from UPenn.

Does it help that he takes credit for creating the 2011 budget?
Does it help that he elevated or exaggerated the job description of Mayor?
Does anyone believe that his party at Molly Maguire’s was to help his mayoral campaign?

"...every single day, you can affect people’s lives,” Maxwell said

  3. Just a group of people with overinflated egos and delusions of grandeur. Nobody cares about them except the developers who cozy up to them so they can make money. As soon as they get their cash, they'll move on to the next bozo, stroke his ego a while, and get what they want from him, leaving a trail of urban sprawl, floods, traffic gridlock, and unfulfilled promises of lower taxes in their wake. The reason they keep getting elected is that few in town care what's going on in the borough unless they are friends with the council member him/herself. Sad but true. Get ready, folks. Downingtown will be the new Delaware County before you know it-devoid of all the charm and character it once had, and we can blame greed, ego and voter apathy for it.

And the mayor? Any council meeting I've ever attended, he sat up there acting like a buffoon, smirking and squinting and fidgeting like a 3 year old. All that's missing is a beanie with a propeller on his head. He'd be an embarrassment to the borough if anyone bothered to actually go see it for themselves.

  4. when does that johnsontown community group meet and ehere i see that in your blog
